Hey Kids!
The holidays are over! Well…almost. Today is New Year’s Eve. When you get back to school, it will be 2009! Wow! Where did the first semester go? Look at what you have already accomplished! I ran the points report on you from this time last year, and most of you (and yes YOU my serious readers) had ZERO points! ZERO!! I am so proud of you! You have put LMS on the map! People are talking about our reading program! It was in the paper again just 2 weeks ago in Glenda Byars column! The other middle schools envy you not having to read for a grade, being able to read WHATEVER level you wish, and getting rewarded for it! To remind you of our 4th six weeks challenge: Get 25 points this six weeks reading anything. Last six weeks, very few of you even attempted the serious challenge of reading non-fiction. This is where we are lacking in our test scores guys! C’mon! Read a little non-fiction along the way!
Can’t wait to see you and hear about what you got from Santa! Until then….READ!
Congratulations to the following 6th graders:
Ononica Cosby, Britney Nunn, Malik Jelks, Tyrico Berry, Gerardo Rodriguez, Jonathan Dobbins,Tearra Kidd, Marquisha Kidd, Diamond Bothwell, Shakinah Terry, Cayonnia George, Elena Francisco, Erica Jerry, Ladasia Brockington, Jermeiqua Gallagher, Ivana Perkins, Kourtney Sackett, Keyunna Sturkie, Brionna Taylor, and Gwendale Thomas
They were treated by Mrs. Smith to a special presentation on Abraham Lincoln at the Alabama City Library. They made peace bracelets and had snacks as well. The students were very well behaved and I believe that everyone had a GREAT time!
Thanks to Mrs. Floyd for accompanying me on this field trip!

New challenge for 3rd six weeks…………….
Score 15 points, with 5 of those points being NON-FICTION!!!
I dare you to do it!!!
Today, 4 of my 8th graders presented a skit to the 6th grade reading classes. It was to encourage reading chapter books rather than thin, small point, non-fiction and easy books. They did an outstanding job! Applause for Briana Marbury, Jeremy Bledsoe, Olivia Orr and Felecia Searcey!!! Thanks guys for never letting me down.
The challenge this six weeks is 15 points from the books of your choice. (That should serve as a hint of what next six week’s challenge will bring). There will be soft drinks at lunch (with a small plus too). The top readers will be going to lunch with ME at Burger King on another day (so you can get your soft drink too!) Also, listen for the trivia question!!! Remember points will be tallied Oct. 24.
I am so proud of you Litchfield Eagles!!!! Keep blowing me away!!! You are awesome!

Math and Science Teachers complaining about students reading their library books in their classes. Ok kids, you really should pay attention in their classes, but I must say……I LOVE IT!!!! I knew if we returned reading for pleasure to you, and made it fun, you’d rise to the occasion like you always do! Litchfield kids are by far the BEST!
Remember to bring your Gadsden Public Library card for me to see Monday and Tuesday for a treat! ONLY Monday and Tuesday…..after that, stay tuned for more challenges.
